The DJI Mini 3 Pro was a milestone in May 2023: the first drone under 250 grams with three-directional obstacle avoidance and a camera capable of native vertical video (without cropping). It established the standard that the Mini 4 Pro would surpass six months later.
Discontinued in 2024 with the arrival of the Mini 4 Pro, it remains available at some retailers and on the used market. For buyers who find it at a significantly reduced price, it remains a capable drone.
Camera: 1/1.3" Sensor at 249g
The 1/1.3" CMOS sensor with 48 MP and f/1.7 aperture was groundbreaking when launched — no drone at this weight had offered this sensor size before. D-Log M support enables proper color grading in post-production.
Native vertical video (2.7K portrait, no crop) was a first for the category and particularly valuable for creators producing short-form content for Instagram Reels and TikTok.
How It Compares to the Mini 4 Pro
The Mini 4 Pro supersedes it on two key points: omnidirectional obstacle avoidance (vs. three-directional) and Active Track 360°. The camera quality is essentially equivalent. If you find the Mini 3 Pro at a substantial discount, it's still a worthwhile purchase for most use cases.
